Director’s Bio
Jake Tapia is an independent filmmaker in San Diego, California. As a director, Jake uniquely combines logical, coherent story development with artistic imagery and emotion.
Jake has been working in the video production and animation industry since 2001. During that time, he has worked on numerous corporate productions and short films.
In 2006, Jake animated the short film Two Guys and a Battle Ax, which was accepted by (and became a fan favorite of) the San Diego Film Festival. This short was also one of three finalists in the South by Southwest (SXSW) Online Film Festival, and was subsequently purchased by the Palm Springs Short Film Market.
In 2009, Jake turned his attention full-time to filmmaking and began producing Citizens*, a feature- length documentary. Citizens* examines the current illegal immigration phenomenon from the point of view of those involved on a daily basis, including day laborers, undocumented students, and anti-immigration activists. Jake has successfully obtained rare interviews with a pollero (human trafficker), a top border patrol agent, and the founder and president of the controversial Minuteman Project. Citizens* is currently in the final stages of production.
